there used to a running joke of sorts in bep academic circles that given enough funding, an Ultimate Dictionary categorizing all language would be possible to achieve; but of course, 'with this lacklustre funding the government is giving us now', that is impossible. some people successfully convinced a few moderate-centralist[1] politicians to actually back this, and for about 200 years nobody said anything, with projects sapping money for their own purposes from this imaginary project. some attempts at dictionaries were made, but the main portion of the money went to people doing whatever they felt like. eventually, someone got too much funding and the shitpost/fraud was discovered, with politicians developing serious trust issues in their funding processes. the term 'dictionary money' has however entered the vernacular as a term for money awarded for technically true but dubious reasons. some political parties embrace this joke in their legitimate funding-for-whatever programmes.
