The Borld (portmanteau of "Bep" & "world") is the world in which the Bep, among many many others, live. The term may be used in reference to their whole universe, or just their home planet specifically. The domain most Bep live in is not the "Borld", but rather the Bep domain. The planet is earthlike, although it has numerous some distinct features, such as Earth worms and a cycle of the atmosphere turning reddish during drift season.

Admittedly, naming the world the Bep live in "Bep-world" is sort of hegemonic, and lays focus on one geographical grouping of people. This is not because the Bep are any more important to the world they live in than anybody else, but rather because they are the first & focal people I started writing about, cf. also the wiki's title.

"Borld" is strictly an non-diegetic name for authorial purposes, and is not known or used in-universe.

Some people who are not Bep who also live in the Borld

(Since writing is mainly focused on the Bep, these are bound to be less detailed in this documentation. They're still very much there, though)

  • While they're close enough culturally to pass as Bep most of the time, the eastern mountains are home to a very distinct group. They've got a lot of monks, live in adobe huts that regularly blow away (rebuilding them is a ritual thing), and many think the world is a soup. They've also got a ridiculously high prevalence of red eye colour, something like 85% compared to the Bep domain's maybe 40.
  • Varu. Some Varu live more sedentary lifestyles in the south of the Varu domain & northeast of the Bep domain, influenced by Bep administrative structures. In the tundra, Varu primarily live in states, nomadic clan-type entities.
  • The south, and east-beyond-the-mountains, has some savannah/desert type areas where some people do sand surfing and horses. They have good access to metals, extensive traditions of hardened ceramics, as well as precise glassworking, with optics commonly used to heat stuff with the sun.
  • There are people across the ocean. They were first encountered by the Bep through flight, and now do some trade, but I haven't figured out anything else about them really.
  • Somewhere yonder even the sand surfing people, far east and far south, there are islanders of another ocean that inhabit caves of glowing mushrooms. They are not known to the Bep, but the Bep are known to them as they've been spotted flying overhead.
