AUTHOR:
once upon a time, the role of earth mother (caretaker, nature god, whatever) was on rotation like most roles are in the realm of the gods. each season, they would replace one seat in the now-diarchy. that is, until an unfortunate series of events brought first the white bear-god Ārłagi to power, earlier responsible for righteous war, and then a season later her sister, the black bear-god Ħūrmai of subversive conflict. they were supposed to serve only one season together, but they turned out too powerful to depose, and to this day rule the earth by way of regulated chaos [symbolism for evolution?]. thus goes the saying, ⋄ even the noble war does not ensure a tranquil peace ⋄.
- the reason for this diarchy is that the original mother earth was cleaved in two by the grand spirits of the earth back when it was forming, because they were dissatisfied with their limited freedom to grow as they pleased. death lacked the courage to take either half of her, let alone both. her two halves remain alive to this day, resigned to carrying the sun and the moon; having seen the unrest her rule created in the world, she decided to leave her position to the rest of the gods. they in turn didn't find it right for any one being to take now-already-split role on their own, and thus decided the right thing would be to rotate on alternating half-years.
