kamu, [kʰɑmɨ] 1) Spirit, soul, inherent power 2) (Religion) A swallow

  • traditional Bep religion treats tree swallows as an embodiment of time/wisdom (one thing in religious context). they're strongly associated with the Bep creation story, in which the world came to be when the sun, the source of all gods' power, was dropped off of the Infinitely Very Tall Tree that the Gods Lived On Top Of, and saved after 7/8 lf the gods that had jumped after it were shattered and formed the world. the remaining gods sent a flock of sparrows each holding a fragment of wisdom/time down as a symbol of the bond between the two worlds. current sparrows are viewed as watered down descendants of these, but still to be treated with respect. if you're nice to the swallows the world is nice to you, if you mistreat them you and your livelihood suffer
